During my 20-week Year 3 internship at SAMH, I gained hands-on experience across various aspects of the mental health sector.
My main role during this internship was to plan, advertise, and facilitate monthly programs for the youths at our center. Throughout the internship, I co-led a variety of programs, including music sessions, board game sessions, art-related sessions, sports, and more.
Through regular engagement with the youths, I built rapport and fostered meaningful relationships while strengthening my interpersonal and communication skills.
I have conducted several outreach booths for both secondary schools and polytechnics. I engage the youths in games that encourage mental wellness conversations, and I share about the services that we provide, such as free counselling, monthly activities, and outreach events.
I also assisted with school assembly talks on mental health, stress, and healthy coping strategies.
(Drawings I have done for SAMH)
I had been given the task of designing flyers for our monthly activates and future outreach collaterals such as stickers, postcards, and illustrations for a website
To develop creative ideas for these designs, I drew inspiration from conversations with the youths, online research, and current trends, ensuring that the content remained engaging and relevant to the target audience.
One of the major projects I co-led during this internship was an escape room for the youths at our center. From the initial planning stages to the event day, I collaborated with another intern to develop the experience, create props, decorations, and costumes, and facilitate the setup and execution of the event. This project strengthened my creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while giving me hands-on experience designing an engaging and immersive experience for the participants.
